Hello fellow literary travelers and welcome to new subscribers,
I’ve compiled a second list of writer and artist residencies in the U.S. and abroad. The first list can be found here. I hope you’re finding time for reading and writing and staying as well as possible.
Headlands Center for the Arts, Sausalito, CA, offers residencies to artists and writers that range from four to ten weeks. The application period for the next round of residencies will open on April 1, 2026 - if each year follows the same schedule. Jan Michalski Foundation Residency for Writers, En Bois Désert 10, (for GPS: Route de Chardève 2), 1147 Montricher, Switzerland. “Residencies can vary in length, lasting from two weeks to one, two, or three months. The length of stay should match the scope of the project.” Currently accepting applications for 2026 residencies - deadline is August 27, 2025, 5 PM CET. There is no application fee—more information available here.
The Studios of Key West, Peyton Evans Artist Residencies, 533 Eaton Street
Key West, FL 33040, info@tskw.org, ph: 305-296-0458. TSKW “offers a residency program for emerging and established artists and writers from around the world. We provide residencies to visual artists, writers, composers, musicians, media artists, performers, and interdisciplinary artists. The program grants nearly 40 artists each year the time and space to imagine new artistic work, engage in valuable dialogue and explore island connections.” The next application period for residencies will open in January 2026.
The Earthskin Trust, New Zealand (two locations), “the Earthskin Ecological Residency's purpose is to foster environmental stewardship, through offering monthly residencies to environmental innovators wishing to focus on their work. The residency runs for 4 weeks.” Applications for 2026/27 will open later this year - more information will be posted here when available.
Recent Bookish interviewee Laura Pritchett has done two residencies with Earthskin. You can find our conversation here.

I’ll be leading a second writing retreat April 26-May 2, 2026 for Foreword Retreats in Bordeaux, France. The retreat I led in the same location last month (and wrote about last November for Bookish) was one of the best experiences I’ve had as a writer-teacher and traveler. The retreat is held at a chateau in the town of Blaye on the Gironde River, about 45 minutes north of Bordeaux. More information available here, and please drop a note to me if you have additional questions.
Very helpful, Christine, thanks. I'm imagining the workshop in Bordeaux was fantastic.
Bordeaux! Would if I could--no doubt it will be terrific!
