I lived in East Hollywood at the time and had a bird outside I called Elton John because he put on a performance. I was so sad when he disappeared. PS I went to Regis!
I’m seeing a lot of “Please Be Advised” in this piece. And literally, not figuratively, made me laugh out loud. When is the “Pleased Be Advised” sequel coming?
Thank you, Barb! Yes, it is one of my biggest pet peeves - I really don't like being at the mercy of my neighbors' bad habits. (Fortunately, this story really is fiction!)
Thank you, Staci! When we were still on Walnut Ave., we really were woken up by a northern mockingbird a number of times in the middle of the night the spring before the pandemic. It was so funny (and sleep-depriving)!

I love that you named the bird Elton John!

I've thought about it! My editor and I were discussing it some months ago - not sure, but possibly down the road - thanks for asking :)
LOVE this post. Since March 2020, when many of us began ordering sweatpants online... Ha!
The published piece is hilarious and SO insightful. The end just right. BRAVA! (The neighbor playing loud music is my worst nightmare!)

I love all of this…especially the last line❤️

The mocking who returned every year in North Hollywood could mimic a car alarm perfectly. In the middle of the night. Gah!
They are hilarious (and maddening)! Oy vey...
Oh dear, mockingbirds. I know!
The males sing at all hours until they find a mate!
Ha! Glad to know it was fiction:-)
