I do think many writers can only write when they're not teaching. If I can write a bit in the morning before the ADHD sets in and I have to get to lesson plans and student pages, I'm usually able to do it, but the morning hours are crucial.
I do my best writing in the morning before school as well. I DO think it can be done, but I love that even the prolific Stephen King struggled to write while teaching - very validating

In ON WRITING, Stephen King discussed how he couldn't write while he was teaching. Teaching just sucks all creative and writerly energy out of us!
