Get your queries in before the holiday publishing hiatus begins
Before the new list of agents accepting queries, a few submission opportunities:
1. Ploughshares’ regular reading period is currently open. Submissions details here.
2. Laurel Review is open for submissions through the end of May. LR is edited by creative writing faculty and students at Northwest Missouri State University. Their Submittable page is here. (This journal is close to my heart—they published two of my early stories and several poems.)
3. Poetry is also open for submissions—submissions page here.
4. Hudson Review short story contest (deadline: November 30). Open for stories (up to 10,000 words) by writers never before published in The Hudson Review. No simultaneous submissions. “First prize: $1000. Second and third prizes: $500.” (Thank you to Erika Dreifus, who noted this contest in November’s
