If you have friends and family in the Middle East, I hope they are safe. Today I must also share the sobering, sad news that a friend and writer I greatly admired, Scott Blackwood, died last week from complications related to ALS. His novel See How Small is one of the most elegant and original I’ve read, and among Scott’s many honors are a Whiting Award and a Grammy nomination for a project he worked on with Jack White of the White Stripes, The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records. He’s also the author of We Agreed To Meet Just Here, which won AWP’s novel prize, and the story collection In the Shadow of Our House. I hope you’ll seek out his work.

I hope you are staying well and writing and reading as time and energy permit.
