Before the new list of agents accepting queries, a photo non sequitur and a few announcements:
- A conversation I had earlier this summer with memoirist and fiction writer Sara Rauch for The Lives of Writers is now available on Apple podcasts and other platforms. We talk frankly about the publishing industry, rejection, and staying with it.
- Two fall writing classes I’m teaching: Mondays, 10/9-11/13, online flash fiction workshop (“Lightning on the Page”), Stanford Continuing Studies. Zoom meetings will be recorded if you can’t attend every session.
‘s Sean Singer will be a guest speaker (his most recent book, Today in the Taxi, is one of our course texts), as will Adam McOmber (we’ll read selections from his flash collection Fantasy Kit).- Tuesdays, 10/3-12/12 (no class Thanksgiving week), online fiction & nonfiction workshop (“Innovative Forms in Prose”), UCLA Extension. Zoom meetings will be recorded too. Lots of fun writing exercises and readings are on tap, including several McSweeney’s selections (my favorite: Maeve Dunigan’s “Dragon Hoarding Enormous Pile of Treasure Seeks Unpaid Intern”).
- Lastly, I’ll be at Printers Row Lit Fest in Chicago on Saturday, 9/9, 2 PM, 637 S. Dearborn (1st Flr, Grace Place) talking with Jarrett Neal (a Bookish subscriber!) and Laura Adamczyk about the short story. All events at the fest are free. And on Tuesday, 9/12, 6 PM, Reginald Gibbons and I will be reading from Sweetbitter (novel) and Direct Sunlight (stories), respectively, at Seminary Co-op Bookstore, 5751 S. Woodlawn Ave, Chicago.
Please drop in and say hello if you’re in the area. 📗
