Today’s post is brief - a poem by Sean Singer and a few photos. (Sending this from Indianapolis - am due home tonight after 10 days in the Midwest with family.)
’s third collection, Today in the Taxi, was published in April 2022 by Tupelo Press. I read it in one sitting, which I rarely do in this era of grievous attention-thievery (am trying to restore the level of focus that defined the days when, after finishing my homework, I’d pick up whatever too-old-for-me library book I’d checked out and finish it within a few days. Not easy…)Today in the Taxi won the National Jewish Book Award for poetry this past March. Sean also received the Yale Series of Younger Poets prize for his first book, Discography, published in 2002, among other honors.
Here is one of his arresting poems from early in the collection:
I hope you’ll seek out Today in the Taxi and Sean’s other books—he has 3 collections and 2 chapbooks. We did a dual interview last year for ZYZZYVA if you’re interested in learning more about his writing. He also writes the poetry Substack
- daily poems with a free subscription & a Saturday craft essay for paid subscribers.I highly recommend Vandana Khanna’s new collection too, Burning Like Her Own Planet (Alice James Books, April 2023 - I’ll include a poem from it in a future post.)
Safe travels, whether near or far, fellow scribes and bookish friends.
I love his poetry! Just bought the book.
I’m ready for some new poetry. Thanks for sharing!
