Greetings new and returning Bookish subscribers,
Before this month’s agent list, a few of items of note:
- Cultural critic, pedagogy expert, and novelist
(whose Substack is ), has a new book out, More Than Words: How to Think About Writing in the Age of AI. John’s writing is always engaging and trenchant.- Steve Almond, bestselling author and Dear Sugars podcast co-host, will be teaching an online writing course, All the Secrets of Plot, on Monday, February 24, 7 - 9 PM CST, for Bookends & Beginnings, an indie bookstore located in Evanston, Illinois. Fee includes a copy of Almond’s most recent novel, All the Secrets of the World, and his craft book, Truth Is the Arrow, Mercy Is the Bow (Course & books: $75 for in-store book pickup; $82 for shipped copies).
- Sharing here a conversation I had with fellow fiction writer Philip Graham about my novel in memos Please Be Advised for 3 Quarks Daily. Philip will be the subject of a Bookish post later this month. He published an extraordinary novel last year, What the Dead Can Say, one he and his wife Alma Gottlieb left copies of in Little Free Libraries all over the country. He didn’t include a byline and signed copies in invisible ink, and since then has published an audio and digital version online. Last September, Philip wrote about the experience for The Millions.
