Greetings fellow scribes and welcome new subscribers,
Today’s post is April’s list of agents currently open to queries. Last month’s is accessible here. These posts, with few exceptions, are the only ones with a paywall.
If you missed it a month or two back, the updated writer and artist residencies list is freely accessible here. Some of the residencies are currently accepting applications.
Before the agent list, a couple of submission alerts:
The Flannery O’Connor Award (University of Georgia Press) for short story collections is open for submissions through May 31. Series editor is Lori Ostlund (who, coincidentally, has a new story collection, Are You Happy? out on May 6). Ostlund received the Flannery O’Connor Award for her first book, The Bigness of the World, in 2008 (one of my favorite collections ever).
The University of Georgia Press also hosts two other annual book awards—one in nonfiction: Crux, the Georgia Series in Literary Nonfiction (submissions open May 15 - February 15), and the Georgia Poetry Prize (submissions open October 1 - November 30).
Lastly, congratulations to Michael Deagler, whose debut novel, Early Sobrieties, was recently longlisted for the PEN/Hemingway Award for a debut novel. Michael was a Bookish interviewee last year, and you can find our conversation here.
