Agent List XXII
Now that the summer holidays are over, publishing industry professionals are back at it full-time
A few miscellaneous items before this month’s agent list:
- Iowa Short Fiction Award and John Simmons Short Fiction Award contests are open through Sept. 30. Submissions (short story collections only) should be at least 150 double-spaced pages. Note: each prize will be awarded to a writer who hasn’t yet published a book-length work of fiction.
- Sharing here a post from Rachel Swearingen’s Instagram (author of How To Walk on Water, a story collection I can’t praise highly enough): in Chicago at the Color Club’s Sugar Hole, 4146 N. Elston Ave., puppets take your ice cream order!
- Still a few spaces available in the 10-week online short story workshop, "Four Beginnings, One Ending," I’m teaching this fall for Stanford Continuing Studies. Start date is Wednesday, 9/25 (6-8:30 PM PT). Course description & registration details here. You can also drop me a note if you have any questions.
- This weekend Sept. 7 & 8 is the annual Printers Row Lit Fest in Chicago - all events are free - you can find the schedule for both days, list of speakers, and the book fair/exhibitor map here. 📗
- Lastly, I spoke with writer and “Plotting Success” podcast creator Jeremy Ray earlier this year about success, disappointment, and a number of other writing-related topics. If you’re interested, the YouTube upload is available here.
