Agent List (#41)
Once again it's query o'clock
Aug. 8 - 14 in Valencia, CA at CalArts, hosted by Vermont College of Fine Arts, a summer fiction workshop I’m scheduled to teach: “The Long and the Short of It,” open to all writers & part of VCFA’s annual writers conference. Registration form is here & more info on the various workshop offerings is here.
April is National Poetry Month (it’s also National Canine Fitness Month, National Welding Month, Second Chance Month, and Earth Month)!
I found the poem below on a social media platform that in days of yore was a great connector of bookish people, but arggghhhh has since transmogrified into a Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome-like outpost of malcontents and malevolent bots.
…on that note:
Before April’s agent list, two new books & reminders about three book contests now open for submissions:
Poetry: The Alice James Books Award – (48-100 pp - single spaced), “winner will receive $2,000, book publication, and distribution through Consortium. In addition to the winning manuscript, one or more additional manuscripts may be chosen for publication as the Editor’s Choice” - submissions deadline is October 17.
Fiction: Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction (short story collections, 40,000-75,000 words; publication by University of Georgia Press) is now open for submissions, deadline May 31.
BOA Editions Short Fiction Prize (short story collections, 100 - 200 double-spaced pp) - $1,000 cash prize and publication by BOA Editions. Deadline is also May 31.
